A tough day

Hi everyone!!

How are you doing? I hope you are facing the last month of the year with the best smile ever! Sorry for not writing in the last days...

Here we go! One of the longest days since I have started the master. The whole day at the university having classes plus doing some staff deserve to be called a tough day!

We started today in the very beginning of the day around 7 am with a lot of motivation to face a really long day and what is going to be the last month of 2015! A year full of experiences and stories to tell but there is not the moment right now.

I can divide today in two main parts due to two different things that were remarkable for me. Talking about the first one, it was a new class of Leadership where we have learn how to manage for results. What I want to highlight from that class is that reducing costs are not necessarily to be done by firing people but there is many ways to achieve that.

What about if we can eliminate waste and duplication? Sometimes there are some activities or departments within the organisation that does not produce value to the firm. Get rid of it! Are we managing in the best way our team? We must not forget that synergies are extremely important to increase collaboration and to reduce costs in some cases. Is there any new technology that may improve efficiency? Can we renegotiate supplier´s contracts? Could we save money by shifting the time of the day? There is pick time in the operational area of the company that can be distributed in other periods in which the organisation is not busy at all in order to save extra costs to accomplish pick time. As you can see, there are several options that we can considerate before we rescind people which are most of the cases one of the most valuable assets that the company has.

As a second part, I would like to stand up my intercultural communication today´s session. Within the two hours and a half of class I realise how much I have learnt from this course and how much I am aware of cultural differences that we have across different cultures in terms of managing people. That important was for me that helped me to finish my essay about how important is nowadays to manage cross-cultural differences focus on business management. I was afraid of my weakness of writing as you already know but thank to the class of today I got the courage to finish it and have the first draft of my assessment which I will kindly post in the blog as soon as it is official in order to let you know a little bit more about that topic.

To conclude today´s chapter I would like to tell you do not be satisfied with your vision of the world. There are really many differences beyond your own culture that very rarely we are fully aware. For that reason you should try to evaluate other people´s values to understand their behaviours and achieve long-term relationships which are really important to create a powerful network that allows us to reach certain goals.

Have a nice evening!!!
