THE POWER OF OUR BRAIN´S RIGHT SIDE

Reading a chapter of a really good and famous book called “The seven habits of highly effective people” I got inspired to tell you something which may help you sooner or later in your real life, in whatever aspect of your life.

As many of you know, the human being has their brains divided in two core parts: the left side, from which we come up with all the rational decisions, our analytical part; and the right side where we develop our creativity, where intuitiveness is carried out. All of us we tend to use the left one somehow more often that the right one.

Accordingly, I experienced a good technique to improve our use of the creative part. A couple of years ago, I had the pleasure and the great opportunity to work for AIESEC Seville. For those of you who do not know about the company here I attach a VIDEO that explains in an effective way what AIESEC is about.

Following with the AIESEC experience, we had to watch a previous video in order to develop the technique of how to improve our skill of imagination and creativeness. After watching that video (it is in Spanish that is why I provide you the translation at the end of this entry), we were required to write a letter, but not a simple letter, It was a letter towards us, a letter in which we are telling to ourselves where, how or who wanted to be in 2 years time. Hence I encourage you to do the same after reading this.

Many times we experience new and unknown situations but, how many times have you dedicated a little time of yours to see yourself after facing that “challenge”? Interestingly, when we are seeing ourselves in a negative result, somehow we will not success as we wanted to. Therefore, it is much attractive and helpful to make a picture of the future result, how do we want to be seen, remembered, appreciated, etc.

Consequently, when we are making a picture of us in that way, we are encountering ourselves with our values and principles. Only thus, we will experience our future as a scripter and not as a spectator. We will be able to follow our values and principles. In one way, our values are our glasses to see the world, they lead us to make our assumptions and develop our behaviours. On the other way, principles are fixed, are with us forever. If you may allow me to make a comparison with the real life I would say that marriage can bring divorcing, things can provoke reactions in one way or another, friends can run away from us, etc. However our principles stay static for good. They are not destructible from earthquakes, fires or similar, they are deeply assumed, consistent, beautiful... and lead us to write our own script. Then, as I wrote a couple of lines above, if you are able to follow your own script, you will be more familiar with the situation, more effective and will make you follow your values and principles which are the core of your day-a-day experience.

Overall, my personal advice is to try devoting from time to time 5 or 10 minutes of your life to have a look at your position, at your behaviours, are you following your principles or values? Or on the contrary are you being driven from others?

Have a nice day and remember you can be whatever you want to be, just being faithful and persistent in what you are doing.

VIDEO TRANSLATION
Man: Don’t you understand I told you not to disturb me?
Secretary: I am sorry, it has arrived an important package with your name on it.
Man: Urgent? Who sends it?
Secretary: You 20 years ago.
Man: Thank you
(She leaves)
During the video:
What? Are you surprised? If you are watching this it has been 20 years. I hope we haven’t lost heard or got some extra kilos. As I know myself and yourself and I am aware of we might have forgotten some things we have learnt that summer I have decided to record this video to remind you all of them: Remember it was a time during which we were travellers but not tourist; during which we were guided through our curiosity instead of a book; we didn’t need booking to spend a great night and you know it; If you are happy, switch off this video... (Lights off) ah! I see you are still there (laughs); the future... do we get married with it? I don’t think so.. ; have you taken the earring off? I guess, after all you are grown up; but remember that we always had time to make friends and... To learn! Learning that it was a time in which the whole world was telling it was not possible, however the hope of the country demonstrated that the world was wrong. Above all, remember that the life is a succession of moments and depends on you how to live them.  Wherever you are in 20 years, well, wherever we are in 20 years, remember when we were in Peru.
Man: (He calls) Honey...
Wife: You will come back home late, right?
Man: Have you been to Peru?
